Wood and canvas canoes
have been built the same way for over 100 years. Generally, northern
white cedar is bent around a strongback, and watertight but breathable
canvas is stretched over the wood hull. Wood and canvas canoes
can be shaped into very fine hull shapes, may be light or heavy,
extremely resilient and tough, will last for 100 years if properly
cared for, and are without a doubt the most beautiful, but functional
craft afloat today.
