Carl's Paddlin'
Rises from the ashes
Hi folks,
Here is what's happenin': As you likely know, the business formerly known as The Paddlin' Shop was opened in 1992 as Carl's Paddlin', a reincarnation of the little business (Carl's Canoes) that I started and ran out of my family's barn, back in 1970, closed it's doors in Sept. 2009. Now, so many of you good people have expressed an interest in seeing the shop continue in some form that I have decided to bring it back in a form that resembles it's humble origins.
Looking at my original business plan, I see that the first goal was to create a comfortable place that paddlers could come, hang out, talk paddlin', and maybe even swap a few jokes, even if they had no current need for new equipment or repairs to their experienced stuff. I'd like to thank John Hougen-Wente for keeping that feeling alive in the shop for the past seven years while he owned the business and I was working part time.
Today's economy moves me to think of resprouting the business in my low overhead, large back yard in Lone Rock, WI., a quiet little river town, alongside the scenic Lower Wisconsin Waterway. Of coarse I am open to other options, if anyone has other location ideas that might be viable in these times. I know that there is an ongoing need for repair services, and I still have quite a personal collection of used Klepper folding kayak parts in the attic and a few used boats around, so I can help keep a few of you on the water while I am consolidating the plans for the business. If you have ideas on how this small business can best continue to serve the paddling community please feel free to share them with me, as I just have this one little brain and welcome other points of view.
Please bear with me while I learn how to rebuild this website.
Thanks for paddlin'
Carl
